I'm happy to be inconsistent. Not that I particularly care much about cats and dogs, but I wouldn't eat them for the same reason Muslims won't eat pork: it just seems disgusting and unnatural. Since I've been eating cows, pigs etc since before my opinions formed, it's perfectly natural and normal to me to do so.

The way I see it, to be human is to be inconsistent. There are some areas where I believe it's right to fight this (countering sexism and racism, for example), and others where I really don't care (such as this example, or the fact that I'm only likely to pick up hitchhikers if they're obviously climbers). This is itself an inconsistency, and I don't care about it either. :-)

I like to think I take a more or less consistent approach with food (if not with anything else). I will try anything once as long as it doesn't involve mayonnaise and it doesn't look at me while I am trying to eat it. That means that I would (given the opportunity) try most things, haggis I quite like so bad example, but I would try eyeballs if called upon to do so, or (as in a book I was reading recently) bulls testicles if it would be rude not to.

That doesn't mean that I don't think "eww" at the idea, but then there are lots of foods where I choose not to think about the contents, anything pre-packaged for a start (flavour enhancers etc, eww).
