Tricky - I have a mental image of a wombat, so if I saw an animal that looked like that, I'd recognise it as a wombat. I have an image of a dragon too. The difference is that I have to be sure the wombat one bears some resemblance to the real creature before I'll trust it. The dragon OTOH, could look like anything, and I'd still answer that I could recognise one - since there's no reality to compare it to.

I guess if you wanted, you could get stricter on the dragonness criteria, and test that people recognise the difference between dragons and wyverns and other large mythical lizards...

I think I'll vote "wombat" just to be awkward... After all, I /know/ that they're recognisable at all - dragons might all be in the habit of using spells of illusion to protect their identities ;)

I also voted wombat, since whilst everyone thinks they know what a dragon looks like, there are large differences between different people's mental images of dragons, especially across cultures.
