Well done! They look nice...

Why not reuse the leftover shortcrust pastry to make jam tarts - just cut out the circles as for the mince pie bottoms, then put a couple of teaspoonfuls of jam in the middle and bake in the oven (same temp/time as for the pies)

Thanks. The main problem with jam tarts is that I don't have any jam. (Ditto for lemon curd.) In terms of spreads, I just have honey and Marmite; I'm not sure whether either of those would really work in tarts. I could of course buy some jam, but then I might be better off buying another jar of mincemeat.

We've got a couple unopened jars of mincemeat going spare, if you'd like them. They're now over 2 years out of date, but I don't believe mincemeat actually goes off. I mean, it couldn't possibly become any viler than it already is. ;)

Incidentally, I believe this is the canonical way to separate an egg.

That would be great, thanks - assuming that you won't use them, I can try it, and always chuck them out if they taste really bad.
