I've talked a lot about procrastinating, feeling scared, and being cold. So, why do I do this at all? Basically because it feels so good afterwards. I don't just mean that I can appreciate the warmth more after I've been really cold to get the contrast. Beyond that, I felt really peaceful: none of the things that normally bother me were in my mind at all.

I'm really proud of you for doing this. I don't mean that in a patronising way, I'm proud of anyone who sets out to take on a challenge for the sake of it and goes at it.

I'm kinda envious, opportunties for open water swimming are pretty rare here, its a good 1.5 hours to the nearest lake big enough to do any distance in.

Maybe next year I'll join you. :-)

Thanks :)

The UK CWSC only runs every 2 years, so the next one will take place in Jan 2015. I think it alternates with the World Winter Swimming Championships, which is hosted by a different country each time (Latvia in Jan 2012, Finland in Jan 2014). The OSS December Dip runs every year, so that may be an easier one for you to reach.
