During the "Future of technology" panel, they were talking about security, and they mentioned that it's tricky when feedback is separated by time and distance. Imagine learning to play cricket, but you'd swing the bat, then go home, and 6 weeks later someone told you whether you'd hit the ball or not. Similarly, if you click a dodgy link, and then a month later you find that someone's hacked your Twitter account, it's difficult to improve your habits.
To some extent, I think the same applies to writing. The advantage of stand-up comedy is that you can see how the audience reacts, then tweak your material. So, it's always nice to get a bit of feedback here to know which of my jokes actually work.
