Ok, this week's been a bit more eventful so far. On the productive front, I've been doing some reading ("The Creative Mind" by Margaret Boden) for my research paper. I've also been doing a stock-take, i.e. entering details of my comics collection into my database, so that I have a list to take along to the marketplace next weekend.

Meanwhile, I went off to see "Bulletproof Monk" at the cinema on Wednesday, which is a fun film. I must get round to watching "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" at some point, since that's the only thing left in my backlog of DVDs. Then off to the pub last night. There are plans afoot for a circle line pub crawl next month, which involves 27 stops. The plan is to drink halves rather than pints, but the general concensus is that if I try to drink a bottle of Diamond White at each pub then this would have unfortunate consequences... (Some people reading this will remember the drinking game in Durham, which only involved 6 bottles, and its aftermath!) The thing is, I don't really like the taste of bitter, and I can barely even stomach lager. I could drink white wine, but it doesn't quite fit the image of a pub crawl, and I gather that it's also up there next to cider on the "gut rot" scale. So, I tried out whiskey last night - I figure that's a man's drink! (Thinking of the western films I've seen.) It tasted ok (although I still prefer Coke), and since it comes in small quantities, it doesn't matter if it takes me a bit longer to sip it rather than gulp it. I'm not sure which brand I tried last night, so I could try a few different varieties. From my time as a barman, I remember that the Glen... products were quite popular, e.g. Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich.

You could do what I'd do and have orange juice at every stop :D

Personally, i prefer Vodka, but at 27 halves, i'd rather not meet you afterwards :-)

Hard to think of a 'hard' drink that'll be safe in such a quantity yet worth the drinking.

Well, just to clarify that, the idea wouldn't be to drink half a pint of whiskey at each stop! It's a case of drinking halves rather than pints, and a single (25ml) is roughly equivalent to a half.

Hmm .... and how long is the whole thing supposed to last? Surely's there no joy in rushing from stop to stop, yet at 27 stops, a leisurely approach would take forever !?!

The plan is to start at 11am, when the pubs open, and finish by 11pm, when they call time. So, that should give a reasonable amount of time per pub (some are closer together than others, so it's not an exact average).

What about gin and tonics? They're fairly light, along with the added bonus of helping you stave off malaria in the more tropical regions of the Circle line.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever tried one of those, so I can give it a go :)
