I've spent a pleasant evening chatting to Michael/Michelle/Lorna since I got home from work, although revision was notable by its absence... This last exam on Friday is a bit of a weird one. It's Synthesis, which is all the other topics put together (plus particle acceleration), so in that sense I've basically done the revision for it already, and I just need to glance through my notes to keep it fresh in my mind. On the other hand, it's 2 hours (the longest exam) and 20% of the total (the biggest exam), so I don't want to treat it too casually. Ah well, I'm sure it will all work out ok.
Still no transcript from Durham - it's now been over a month since I sent them the form, and over a week since I chased the admin person via email. My MSc application is basically on hold until that gets resolved. On the other hand, this close to the exam my time gets more limited anyway. So, if it arrives tomorrow, I can write the application form in the evening, post it on Thursday, and they'll get it on Friday. After that, they won't receive it until Monday, so I may as well work on it over the weekend, rather than doing a rush job that conflicts with revision. Mind you, it may actually be better for me to play courier and drop the thing off myself (to the Strand), rather than rely on the post office... If there's no transcript by the weekend, I'll have to chase them again. Maybe see if I can rope in William to do some legwork for me, since he's based in Durham :)
My motorbike got collected last Wednesday, by the company that the insurance company endorses. The idea was that by using them, it would all go much faster - 48 hours vs 10/11 days. However, it's now been almost a week, and I haven't heard back from them either. I had a call from the insurance company last Friday, but it wasn't directly about this. The woman didn't say much - I suspect she was doing a "We hope you're happy with the service you're receiving" call, and decided not to push her luck :) Anyway, that's another thing I'll chase up soon (post-exam) if they don't pull their finger out.
On the computer front, I need to get some new parts sorted out. I want to get some nice hardware - SCSI card, 20/40 Gb tape drive, and big hard drive. However, that will cost over 1000 quid, which raises the question of whether I can afford it. In a sense, yes - I have the money in my account. However, I'm supposed to be saving for university, so I shouldn't blow it all on luxury items now. On the other hand, I don't have an exact budget for next year yet. It depends on what I'm doing (postgrad vs undergrad), where I'm living, and how my review goes at work (due in July). Since they're all up in the air at the moment, I just have a general philosophy of trying not to do anything too extravagant. But my server is basically crippled at the moment, so I don't want to wait until I know more before I actually sort it out. Ah well, I guess that's another "thing to do post-exams".
Right, time for bed...
