A bit of excitement near the Forbidden Planet in Croydon this… - John C. Kirk
Oct. 2nd, 2004
A bit of excitement near the Forbidden Planet in Croydon this afternoon - I saw a police car speed up, then three policemen in body armour jumped out to help three other officers deal with a guy who was in handcuffs. He was standing there quietly, so I wasn't quite sure why they seemed so nervous. Then I got further down the road, and saw a big cordoned-off area with a couple of guys in bio-hazard suits wandering around in the middle. There was quite an audience standing outside the cordon, so I guess it wasn't considered to be ultra-dangerous. A bit odd though. Ah well, I'm sure I'll hear about it on the news later if it's anything important.
In other news, I've just finished the new Pratchett novel ("Going Postal"), which I enjoyed. As with some of the other recent novels, it's introducing a new cast, with just a few cameos from existing characters. And it has chapters! One odd thing - when I bought it at WHSmith, there were two prices available. The RRP is £17.99, and some copies had a sticker saying "£11.99", while others had a sticker saying "£3 off, and part of 'buy one, get one half-price' offer". So, choose your discount...
